I have to admit. It's very cold in sunny Florida, today. But the sun is still shining and that makes it all bearable. I'm the first to admit that I endure the cold, I do not enjoy it.
Here's a question I have for "all" my readers. And feel free, both of you, to answer.
Do you love where you live?
During my life I've lived several places including North Carolina, Oklahoma, Missouri, and a lot of cities in Texas. There were things I loved about each one of them. (Well, not North Carolina, but that's only because I was a baby and don't even remember being there. I've driven through as an adult and it's beautiful.)
The thing I've loved most is the people I've met and become friends with over the years. I can claim friends from many states and I'm glad they're part of my life.
But to be completely honest, I can't say I loved the places themselves. I enjoyed my time there but I didn't love the location itself.
That is, until I moved to my island in North Florida. It's strange to visit a place for the first time and feel more at home than places you've lived for years. But that's what happened.
This is all a personal choice, of course. I know there are those who would find hurricane season a real pain. (and it is.) There are many who would find the hot summers unbearable. And some would never consider it truly winter without snow. But I've discovered I don't miss snow or ice. Perhaps because the way I drove on it endangered all in my path.
I love the history here. I work in a building that was built before the Civil War. When I need to go the post office I walk half a block downtown, past Victorian style houses built over a hundred years ago.
And walking to the ocean and listening to the roar of the waves...I love that. A friend of mine (who grew up in California) once told me that once you live near the ocean, everywhere else seems claustrophobic. I had no idea what she was talking about. I do now.
I could go on and on. But I'd love to hear from some of you. Where do live and why do you love it? Or where have you lived in the past that you loved? Perhaps your hometown....
