Waiting for my favorite Fogelberg Song....

When Christmas comes around, I always start listening to the radio to hear my favorite Dan Fogelberg song. Don't get me wrong, I love all the classic Christmas Carols (except Little Drummer Boy, I hate that one. I think it's the most redundant song ever written, but I digress), I love most of the Christmas classics such as Silent Night. Being a guitar player, I love the fact that when the organ broke down on Christmas Eve it was the song written and played on the guitar that saved the day.

Two other favorites are "What Child is This" and "Away in a Manager".

But the song I spend the most time listening for is Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne". It's a story song and I always enjoy a good story, even in a song.

This year I've managed to turn the radio on twice in time to hear the lyrics..."the snow turned into rain..." For those of you who don't know, that's the last line of the song. Of course, I slapped the steering wheel and cursed the radio. I've already had to listen to "Little Drummer Boy" fifteen times but I can't hear my favorite song once!!

Now some might say, in this day of modern technology, that I should break down and buy the song instead of being at the mercy of a disc jockey's whims. And if some day, someone would like to buy me the CD for Christmas, I wouldn't complain. But at the risk of showing my age, I have to say I find some joy in waiting for my anticipated song. We demand that everything be immediate these days, our food, our phone calls, our music, that it's easy to hurry past it all in a rushed haze. Why enjoy what you consistently have immediate access to?

So I'll continue to listen for my song, and when it comes on just as I pull into where I'm going, I'll drive around the block a few times until I hear..."the snow turned into rain"
